What is a fanlisting, you ask? Well, a fanlisting is a place for fans of a particular subject (movie, actor/actress, singer, etc.) to come together and try to build the biggest list of fans from all around the world. Fanlistings were created by the brilliant Janine. In this case, it is for one of my favorite actors, Desi Arnaz. Below you'll see his biography.
Who is Desi Arnaz?
Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha the Third was born in Santiago, Cuba on March 2, 1917. His father was the mayor of Santiago. In 1933 the Batista Revolution had his father imprisoned, and all his wealth, property and power were taken away. After his father was released, they fled to Miami, Florida. One of Desi's first jobs in the United States was to clean bird cages. After forming his own small band of musicians, he was hired by Xavier Cugat, "the king of latin music". Desi soon left Cugat and formed his own latin band and literally launched the Conga craze in the U.S. Desi was then cast in the Broadway play "Too Many Girls", which brought Desi to Hollywood to make the film version of the play. On the set of "Too Many Girls" he met Lucille Ball. They soon married and approximately ten years later they formed Desilu Productions and soon began the "I Love Lucy" shows in 1951. They had two children, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Lucie Arnaz. After twenty years of being married, they divorced (at the end of I Love Lucy and the Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour). Desi later wrote his autobiography entitled "A Book". He then married his wife Edith Mack Hirsch on March 2, 1963, and never separated. Unfortunately, in 1986 Desi was diagnosed with lung cancer, and died on December 2, 1986.
